FAQs

What is the smallest amount of fabric I can buy?

Online, we sell our fabrics in one metre increments.  However, you are more than welcome to contact us directly and place an order with us for smaller amounts or part metres.

How much fabric do I need?

We can help you with your fabric requirements.  When it comes to curtains and blinds, all we need are two simple measurements: the finished width and the finished length.  We go into a bit more detail on these measurements in our Journal. You can read this here.

For upholstery requirements, we have a handy guide that will steer you in the right direction.

And for anything else, well, we've mastered the art of an educated guess!

Do you make curtains?

Clever as we may be, we don’t make curtains.  We can recommend curtain makers and upholsterers too - see our next question.

Can you recommend a curtain maker?  An Upholsterer?

Yes, we can!  We have a stash of cards, and are always getting recommendations from our customers, so we're happy to pass this information on. Similarly, if you are a clever cookie who makes curtains, cushions, loose covers or upholsters, feel free to get in touch.

What is the process when I buy my fabric from you?

We work closely with you and your measurements to determine the exact amount of fabric you need. If everything is available in our stock, we can cut the fabric right away for your immediate purchase. In the rare instance that we don't have enough fabric, we have a couple of options for you. We can either let you know about the estimated arrival of our next shipment or suggest suitable alternatives.

Most of our fabrics are conveniently displayed in our showroom, available off the bolt. However, we understand that sometimes you may have specific fabric requests. In such cases, we are more than happy to order fabrics specifically for you.

Not only do we stock a wide range of fabrics, we also have curtain linings and heading tapes.  If you require rods or tracks, we can order these in for you.

I can’t find the fabric I want in your shop or online?

Please get in touch with us either instore, via phone (027 309 0060) or via email (info@thefabricofsociety.co.nz) and we can find out if your fabric is available, find out the cost and give you a quote.

My fabric is faulty?

Fabric occasionally has faults, which is a characteristic of working with natural fibres. However, we take great care to ensure our fabrics are of the highest quality.  Despite our best efforts, there may be rare instances where some faults slip through.  If this happens, get in touch and we will work with you to resolve any issues. Thankfully these are few and far between and we strive to provide you with the best fabrics possible.

Can I return my unwanted fabric to you?

We recommend passing on your unwanted fabric to others who may have a use for it.  A local craft group, school, op shop or rag business are worth considering.  You could always add it to your fabric stash or make yourself a reusable tote bag for the groceries.

Do you recover lampshades?

The short answer is no, we don’t offer lampshade recovers. However, you can certainly take on the task yourself, especially after participating in one of our lampshade workshops. These workshops provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully recover lampshades on your own.

The reason we don't offer a recovery service is because it is a time consuming and costly process. We are more than happy to impart our lampshade knowledge to you.

Do you make house calls?

Only if there is a gin involved!  Just kidding!   We are more than happy to discuss your projects with you in-store, so bring in your plans, carpet samples, paint swatches etc. If you need expert advice, we have interior designers we can recommend.
